New Year Resolution

January 1 is not only the start of the New Year, but is when many begin their New Year’s Resolutions. Mange stress. Eat healthier. Exercise more. Spend more time with family. Sticking to your resolutions and making changes can be difficult but not impossible.

“A new year is a great time to think about the changes we want to make in our lives. Being and staying well is a resolution many people make for the New Year, but those resolutions can lead to frustration when we find we have set unrealistic goals,”

“Making a resolution to change one thing that will make us healthier is a priceless gift that only we can give to ourselves.”

Try again.

Everyone has made, and broken past resolutions, that does not mean that you won’t succeed this time. Start with a positive approach, including thinking about what has disrupted your good intentions in the past. Don’t discourage yourself with a negative outlook.

Don’t make too many resolutions.

Trying to eat better, exercise more, quit smoking, and reduce stress is too much to tackle at once. Pick a realistic, attainable goal with a reasonable time frame.

Choose your own resolution.

Make sure this is something that you want to accomplish for yourself and not for friends or family. When you attain the goal they will benefit from your success as well.

Make a plan and write it down.
Plan what you’d like to accomplish in three or six months. Achieving small goals over time gives you a sense of accomplishment and motivation to keep going. Writing your goals down is a good way to keep track of your progress.

Involve friends and family.
They can support your efforts, and can motivate you to keep going. Setting a personal goal is not a “promise” which can never be broken. Don’t paint yourself into a corner by overstating what can be a realistic change you plan to make.

Forgive yourself
. If you get off track, don’t think that you failed. Review your plan and make adjustments.

Congratulate yourself
. Reward yourself when your intermediate goals or resolutions are met.

The most important point to consider when deciding on your resolutions is to decide if you are truly willing to make the change in your life. Deciding to make the change just to have a resolution will not keep you motivated to attain your goal. Many people fail because they are afraid or don’t fully realize how the goal can benefit their every day lives. When you decide on your resolution, make a plan of action and list the ways it will improve your life. When you can see the prize, you are more likely to keep up the fight.

But, please be informed that it is not necessary to strictly adhere to the figures given above. Carrying a little extra or a little less weight which one feels comfortable with and which gives a “healthy” look is perfectly acceptable.

Weight control measures should be long term goals. Sudden crash weight loss regimes are not only harmful but also not sustainable over a long period of time. Watching one’s weight should start relatively early in life. Body weight can be kept in balance by a healthy mixture of diet, physical exercise and activity and in fact adopting a suitable life style. The best way is to permanently adopt a healthy and regular life style.

You have to put in some effort for maintaining your body weight and your own health!
Other aspects of “ageing gracefully & healthy” will be elaborated in our forthcoming newsletters.

Things to do :
•Check your height and weight once in 6 months & keep a record.
•If you are grossly overweight or underweight consult your family physician or suitable medical professional and slowly and in determined fashion adopt long term life style changes.
•An annual or biannual “Comprehensive Health Check Up” after the age of 35 is a worthwhile measure to be followed by all.
•Keep all your health records filed carefully and datewise.

Smart Ways to tackle INCOME TAX

Submitting proof of investments is an extremely traumatizing affair for all salaried individuals. First, you have to deal with the painful task of collecting and organizing hordes of receipts. To top it off are the anxiety levels of not knowing if you’ve invested enough and worrying about how much money you’ll lose to tax in the following couple of months.

Naturally, we all have tax consultants, who will tell us what we need to do to ensure the least possible impact of tax, but it’s even more helpful if we, ourselves are very clear on exactly how much of our salary can we claim as exempted from tax. This way, we know exactly how much we must invest to minimize tax liability. Make no mistake, investing in order to save tax is absolutely necessary, but knowing deductibles on your salary ensures you don’t overdo your tax saving investments.

Basic salary: high or low?
If you earn a salary of Rs 1,00,000 per month, you are definitely aware that the basic amount in your salary is taxable. A high basic salary will come in good stead when you retire, but the flip side, as mentioned above is the tax liability of the same. Let’s say your basic is Rs 40,000. That would make your HRA as 20,000, which can only be claimed as tax deductible if you submit proof of rent to your employer.

Allowances: Double edged sword
Take note that any allowances included as a fixed component in your salary, like petrol, mobile phone bills, etc will be tax deductible. However, if the same were being given to you separately as reimbursement, these aren’t deductible for tax. So, if your pay package has reimbursements as opposed to allowances and that too separate from your monthly package these can be claimed as exempt from tax.

Provident Fund contribution
The Provident Fund contribution from your salary is deductible. You don’t really need to specify this in your declaration. This is something your employers factor in when deducting tax. If you have switched jobs and requested for withdrawal of PF, then the number of years of service will determine whether that withdrawn PF amount is taxable or not. According to the law, PF withdrawal after continuous service of 5 years (with single or multiple employers) is exempt from tax. So, if you’ve worked for less than 5 years, then the interest component on PF is treated as ‘income from other sources’ and is hence taxable. Also, the employer’s contribution is considered as income and is therefore taxable.

Home loans: boon and bane
There is one oft-used and essential tax-saver – home loans. What is commonly done (if both partners are working) is that one partner shoulders the EMI responsibility while the other handles the household expenses. Instead what can be done is that both the partners become co-applicants to the loan. This mean each can claim the rebate individually. Let’s say, the rebate to the loan is Rs 1,00,000 plus another lakh on principal amount, if you have a co-applicant to the loan, then each of you can individually claim Rs200,000 (that’s Rs400,000 in total). Use the rest of your taxable income for some sensible investment then. Note though, home loan tax benefits will come to both the co-applicants only if each has a source of steady income (and proof of payment made is submitted by both). Dependent partners can be co-applicants but won’t avail tax benefits if they aren’t earning.

And, finally education
Another expenditure to take note of, is the amount you spend on your child’s education. In your child’s school fees, there is the tuition fee component, which is entirely tax deductible (under Section 80 C). So keep those receipts handy.
These are some basic deductions, applicable to salaried individuals that need to be factored in before you invest (last-minute) for ‘tax purposes’.

straighten your hair(Tips)

Most of the women who have curly hair want it to be straight and those with straight hair want it to be curly and that’s something normal. One of the easiest ways to straighten your hair is using straightening irons, /flat irons as they are also called/. They use heat to straighten the hair and are made of metal or ceramic. The ceramic straighteneres are less damaging than the metal ones, because they evolve steam that add moisture to the hair, generate negative ions and straighten hair quickly and effectively. The ceramic irons are preferable to the metal ones as the heat is less damaging and cause no pulling on hair.Ceramic plates conduct heat fast and retain it so you can achieve optimum styling control and create poker straight hair. The infrared heat will seal in your hairs natural oils, moisture and colour so your tresses look shiny and healthy no matter what style you choose.
How to straighten your hair using a flat iron:
Step 1 Wash your hair:
Wash your hair using a mild shampoo appropriate for your hair type. Shampoo gently. Wet the hair thoroughly with water that isn’t too hot. Rinse with cool water to remove all traces of shampoo residue.
Step 2 Apply hair mask
Apply a small amount of hair mask to wet hair, concentrating on ends. Let it penetrate deeply for a few minutes and rinse thoroughly. The hair mask will nourish and replenish your hair leaving it improved texture, more body, easy to manage and with luminous shine. In my opinion a hair mask should always be applied before straightening hair with flat iron or chemicals.
Step 3 Condition hair
Use a conditioner following the shampoo. It’s essential because heat damaged hair needs more moisture. A conditioner will coat the hair shaft with a thin film that smoothes down roughened cells and fills in the uneven surface. A good conditioner will feed the root and repair structure to prevent dry, breaking, frizzy and splitting.
Step 4 Towel wet hair
Towel wet hair to remove as much water as possible. Comb wet hair with a wide toothed comb but never brush wet hair and never rub it. Carefully part and separate your hair into sections.
Step 5 Apply a heat protection spray
Applying heat-protection spray is essential, especially when straightening. These sprays are specifically designed to protect the hair from the heat when using straightening irons or curling irons and act as a barrier between hair and heat. Always spray the product before straightening your hair. Some of these products also help to straighten the hair, retain the moisture in your hair and protect hair from splitting. Put small amount of the product into your palms and smooth lightly over the tops of your hair.
Step 6 Blow-dry your hair
Blow-dry your hair thoroughly. Hold the hair sections out taut and point the hairdryer down to dry it. Use the brush to pull the sections of your hair straight at the ends. Never expose one section of your hair to intense, sustained heat from the hairdryer.
Step 7 Start ironing
Start ironing smaller portions, working your way up the head and set the right temperature for your hair. Apply even pressure and slowly move the iron down your hair. Avoid direct scalp contact to avoid potential burns and never pass the same section more than two times. Make sure you maintain an even, gentle tension on your hair.
Step 8 Apply styling product
At the end apply hair serum, hair gel or hair wax but make sure you apply it evenly otherwise your hair may look lank and greasy. Use your fingers to carefully arrange your hair. The product will maintain your hair in the desired position and will help it last longer.
Useful Beauty Tips:
* Remember: heat that is strong enough to change the natural style of your hair is damaging.
* Limit the use of flat iron and apply a deep conditioning treatment once a week to combat damage.
* Always use heat protection spray, otherwise your hair will get damaged.
* Don’t use too much hair products because your hair will look lank and greasy.
* Invest in good flat iron.
* Keeping the sections small will avoid ridges forming at the roots.
* Don’t try to straighten too much hair at once.
* To camouflage the regrowth line, part hair on the sides create a zigzag parting
or pull hair back into a ponytail.
* Give your hair a break and let it rest, but keep it clean and well-conditioned.
* Purchase the same line of hair products - they are formulated to work together.
* Applying harsh products, providing improper hair services can cause the hair structure become weakened and damaged.
* Always apply conditioner or hair mask before hair straightening.
* Never straighten your hair if it is still wet - the hair will burn and will be seriously damaged.
* Never repeat straightening the same section of hair over and over again.
* Make sure the products you use are appropriate for your hair type.
* Never brush wet hair - it stretches and breaks the hair.
* A good haircut is essential to achieve the perfect style.
* Always blow-dry before straightening your hair.
* Always clean the flat iron plate with a cleaner after each styling session.
* Never straighten your hair every day - reserve it for special occasions.
* Always unplug the flat iron immediately after use.
* Never use flat iron in bathroom.
* Try not to touch your hair too often.
* Regular heat-styling robs the hair of moisture and oil, leaving it more prone to split ends and breakage.

Front Row

Life is a theater so invite your audiences carefully.
Not everyone is holy enough and
healthy enough to have a
FRONT ROW seat in our lives.

There are some people in your life
that need to be loved from a distance.
It's amazing what you can accomplish when you let go,
or at least minimize your time with
draining, negative, incompatible,
not-going-anywhere relationships,
friendships, fellowships and family!

Observe the relationships around you.
Pay attention to: Which ones lift and which ones lean?
Which ones encourage and which ones discourage?
Which ones are on a path of growth uphill
and which ones are just going downhill?

When you leave certain people,
do you feel better or feel worse?
Which ones always have drama
or don't really understand,
know and appreciate you
and the gift that lies within you?

The more you seek the things of God,
the more you seek quality,
the more you seek things honorable,
the more you seek growth,
peace of mind, love and truth around you,
the easier it will become for you
to decide who gets to sit in the FRONT ROW
and who should be
moved to the balcony of your life.

You cannot change the people around you ...
but you can change the people you are around!

Ask God for wisdom and discernment and
choose wisely the people
who sit in the FRONT ROW of your life.

Remember that FRONT ROW seats are for special
and deserving people and those who sit
in your FRONT ROW should be chosen carefully.

"I shall pass through this world but once.
If therefore, there be any kindness I can show,
or any good thing I can do, let me do it now...
for I shall not pass this way again."

Thank you for being in my front row...

Time & Love

Once upon a time there was an island where all the feelings lived;
happiness, sadness, knowledge, and all the others, including love.

One day it was announced to all of the feelings
that the island was going to sink to the bottom
of the ocean. So all the feelings prepared
their boats to leave.

Love was the only one that stayed. She wanted
to preserve the island paradise until the last
possible moment. When the island was almost
totally under, love decided it was time to leave.

She began looking for someone to ask for help. Just then
Richness was passing by in a grand boat. Love asked,
"Richness, Can I come with you on your boat?"

Richness answered, "I'm sorry, but there is a lot of silver and gold
on my boat and there would be no room for you anywhere."

Then Love decided to ask Vanity for help who was passing in a
beautiful vessel. Love cried out, "Vanity, help me please."

"I can't help you", Vanity said, "You are
all wet and will damage my beautiful boat."

Next, Love saw Sadness passing. Love said,
"Sadness, please let me go with you."

Sadness answered, "Love, I'm sorry but I just need to be alone now."

Then, Love saw Happiness. love cried out,
"Happiness, please take me with you."
But Happiness was so over overjoyed
that he didn't hear Love calling to him.

Love began to cry. Then she heard a voice say, "Come Love, I will take
you with me." It was an elder. Love felt so blessed and overjoyed that
she forgot to ask the elder his name. When they arrived on land the
elder went on his way. Love realized how much she owed the elder.

Love then found Knowledge and asked. "It was Time", Knowledge
answered. "But why did Time help me when no one else would?",
Love asked. Knowledge smiled and with deep wisdom and
sincerity, answered, "Because only Time is capable of
understanding how great Love is."

A Prayer For You

This Morning When I Wakened
And Saw The Sun Above,
I Softly Said, "Good Morning, Lord,
Bless Everyone I Love."

Right Away I Thought Of You
And Said A Loving Prayer,
That He Would Bless You Specially,
And Keep You Free From Care.

I Thought Of All The Happiness
A Day Could Hold In Store,
I Wished It All For You Because
No One Deserves It More.

FOCUS

If you focus on resentment, you'll create many more things to resent.

When you focus on gratitude, you'll bring many more things into your life for which to be thankful.

Focus on anger, and you'll continue finding additional reasons to be angry.

Focus on love, and the opportunities for experiencing love will greatly multiply.

Focus on life's best possibilities, and you'll move steadily in the direction of your dreams.

Focus on the things you truly value, and they grow even more valuable.

Focus on what you are able to give, and you'll greatly expand what you are able to have.

Focus your energy, your attention, your interest and your passion on some particular thing, and you can make the impossible happen.

Where is your focus most consistently directed? That is where your life is most certainly headed.

Focus on love, understanding, peace, and harmony you will have a life pleasing to God.
Focus on hate, bitterness, strife and discord and your life will be wasted and empty.

By choosing your focus, you choose your lifestyle, the world around you, and your future.
Focus on what is truly good and right and valuable for you, and you will be gloriously immersed in that goodness.

Everything depends on how do u see anything.

Two Horses

There is a field, with two horses in it.

From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse.
But if you stop your car, or are walking by,
you will notice something quite amazing...

Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind.
His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him.

This alone is amazing.

If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell.

Looking around for the source of the sound,
you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field.
Attached to the horse's halter is a small bell.

It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow.

As you stand and watch these two friends,
you'll see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse,
and that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk to where the other horse is,
trusting that he will no t be led as t ray.

When the horse with the bell returns to the shelter of the barn each evening,
it stops occasionally and looks back,
making sure that the blind friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.

Like the owners of these two horses,
We are not thrown away just because we are not perfect
or because we have problems or challenges.
Others are mysteriously brought into our lives to help us when we are in need.

Sometimes we are the blind horse
being guided by the little ringing bell of those friends who are placed in our lives.

Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way....

Good friends are like that... you may not always see them, but you know they are always there.

Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours.
And remember...be kinder than necessary- everyone you meet is fighting
some kind of battle.

Life struggles

A man found a cocoon of an emperor moth. He took it home so that he could watch the moth come out of the cocoon. On the day a small opening appeared, he sat and watched the moth for several hours as the moth struggled to force the body through that little hole.

The moth seemed to be stuck and appeared to have stopped making progress. It seemed as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther. The man, in his kindness, decided to help the moth; so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The moth then emerged easily. But its body was swollen and small, its wings wrinkled and shriveled. The man continued to watch the moth because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to and able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the little moth spent the rest of its life crawling around with a small, swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly. The man in his kindness and haste did not understand that the struggle required for the moth to get through the tiny opening was necessary to force fluid from the body of the moth into its wings so that it would be ready for flight upon achieving its freedom from the cocoon. Freedom and flight would only come after the struggle. By depriving the moth of a struggle, he deprived the moth of health.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If we were to go through our life without any obstacles, we would be crippled. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. Give every opportunity a chance, leave no room for regrets, and don't forget the power in the struggle.

I think you are wonderful!

The following story captured our heart. It happened several years ago in the Paris opera house. A famous singer had been contracted to sing, and ticket sales werebooming. In fact, the night of the concert found the house packed and every ticket sold.

The feeling of anticipation and excitement was in the air as the house manager took the stage and said, Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your enthusiastic support. I am afraid that due to illness, the man whom you've all come to hear will not be performing tonight. However, we have found a suitable substitute we hope will provide you with comparable entertainment. The crowd groaned in disappointmentand failed to hear the announcer mention the stand-in's name. The environment turned from excitement to frustration.

The stand-in performer gave the performance everything he had. When he had finished, there was nothing but an uncomfortable silence. No one applauded. Suddenly, from the balcony, a little boy stood up and shouted, Daddy, I think you are wonderful! The crowd broke into thunderous applause.

We all need people in our Lives who are willing to stand up once in a while and say, I think you are wonderful.

And at times others are expecting this from you.
Are you telling them how wonderful you are . . .??????????

Say it now and make someone's day more pleasant.

Cold treatment

Common Cold treatment using Lemon:
Lemon is the most important among the many home remedies for common cold. It is beneficial in all types of cold with fever. Vitamin C-rich lemon juice increases body resistance, decreases toxicity and reduces the duration of the illness. One lemon should be diluted in a glass of warm water, and a teaspoon of honey should be added to it. This should be taken once or twice daily.

Common Cold treatment using Garlic:
Garlic soup is an old remedy to reduce the severity of a cold, and should be taken once daily. The soup can be prepared by boiling three or four cloves of chopped garlic in a cup of water. Garlic contains antiseptic and antispasmodic properties, besides several other medicinal virtues. The oil contained in this vegetable helps to open up the respiratory passages. In soup form, it flushes out all toxins from the system and thus helps bring down fever. Five drops of garlic oil combined with a teaspoon of onion juice, and diluted in a cup of water, should be drunk two to three times a day. This has also been found to be very effective in the treatment of common cold.

Common Cold treatment using Ginger:
Ginger is another excellent remedy for colds and coughs. About ten grams of ginger should be cut into small pieces and boiled in a cup of water. It should then be strained and half a teaspoon of sugar added to it. This decoction should be drunk when hot. Ginger tea, prepared by adding a few pieces of ginger into boiled water before adding the tea leaves, is also an effective remedy for colds and for fevers resulting from cold. It may be taken twice daily.

Common Cold treatment using Lady's Fingers:
Lady's fingers are highly valuable in treating irritation of the throat and a persistent dry cough. This vegetable is rich in mucilage and acts as a drug to allay irritation, swelling, and pain. About 100 gm of lady's fingers should be cut into pieces, and boiled down in half a litre of water to make a decoction. The steam issuing from this decoction may also be inhaled once or twice a day to relieve throat irritation and a dry cough.

Common Cold treatment using Bitter Gourd Roots:
The roots of the bitter gourd plant are used in folk medicine to cure a cold. A teaspoon of the root paste, mixed with an equal quantity of honey or tulsi leaf juice, given once every night for a month, acts as an excellent medicine for colds.

Common Cold treatment using Turmeric:
Turmeric is an effective remedy for colds and throat irritations. Half a teaspoon of fresh turmeric powder mixed in 30 ml of warm milk, and taken once or twice daily, is a useful prescription for these conditions. Turmeric powder should be put into a hot ladle. Milk should then be poured in it and boiled over slow heat. This mixture should then be drunk by the patient. In case of a running cold, smoke from the burning turmeric should be inhaled. It will increase the discharge from the nose and provide quick relief.

Common Cold treatment using Tamarind and Pepper:
Tamarind-pepper rasam is also considered an effective home remedy for a cold in South India. Dilute 50 mg tamarind in 250 ml of water. Boil the diluted tamarind water for a few minutes with a teaspoon of hot ghee and half a teaspoon of black pepper powder. This steaming hot rasam has a flushing effect, and should be taken three times a day. As one takes it, the nose and eyes water and the nasal blockage is cleared.

Common Cold treatment using Vitamin C:
Regular intake of vitamin C-75 mg for adults and 35 mg for children-will prevent the common cold. If, however, a cold has already appeared, large doses of this vitamin will relieve the symptoms and shorten its duration. It is estimated that one to two grams (1000 mg to 2000 mg) per day is approximately the optimum amount of this vitamin for this purpose. His advice is to swallow one or two 500mg tablets of vitamin C at the appearance of the first sign of the cold and continue the treatment by taking one to two 500 mg tablets daily.
